DICKSON, TENN. – Dickson will soon have a locally based television station with family friendly and local-interest programs.
WO6AY/WDHC, to be known as TV6, is a low-powered television station scheduled to begin broadcasting over-the-air by the end of April 2021, according to the Owner’s of R&F Communications.
TV6 will be available for antenna-based viewers on VHF Channel 6 as well as its digital sub-channels 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4 and 6.5. The company is still negotiating to make TV6 available through local cable and satellite providers.
“We are excited to expand the broadcast services of R&F Communications to offer local television programming for viewers in Dickson and surrounding counties as well as a new advertising medium for local businesses to promote themselves,” According to Kenneth Forte, President/Co-Owner.
Founded by Arkansas native Kenneth Forte and, Dickson native Lori (Michelle) Reddon, R&F Communications purchased WDKN 1260AM and returned it to the airwaves in July 2009. Two years later the company added 101.5 The One FM through a broadcast translator license. The company also provides local internet service through RFC Broadband.
Building on the heritage of WDKN’s broadcast history that began Jan. 1, 1955, R&F Communications has made local programming its main focus and plans to continue with the new TV6.
“TV6 is proud to offer an exciting selection of locally produced programming,” Forte said. “From local sports, local human interest shows, real estate and so much more, TV6’s programming will be programming that affects you, the viewer, with topics and information you care about.”
R&F Communications purchased the low-powered television station and its license from a company that has been broadcasting from Lebanon, KY, in the Louisville and Lexington markets. The company will relocate its broadcast antenna to Dickson, TN and will reach an area in a broadcast radius of 30 miles, extending into eight Middle Tennessee counties and reaching a potential audience of more than 500,000 viewers based on its signal coverage map.
“TV6 not only brings television broadcast and advertising opportunities to Dickson and Dickson County, but also portions of Cheatham, Montgomery, Hickman, Williamson, Humphreys, Houston and western Davidson counties,” Forte said. “This will enable us to bring local programming such as sports to viewers in those areas as well as providing Dickson businesses the opportunity to reach a regional radio and television market.”
R&F Communications will partner with The Family Channel as a broadcast affiliate. The Family Channel owned by Reach High Media Group, Chattanooga, TN features affiliate stations in 23 states and Puerto Rico with a variety of classic television programs, outdoor programs and faith-based programs.
“We are creating a TV6 television studio within the home of WDKN and The One FM to begin producing local programming and are developing the foundation to broadcast live and tape-delayed local sports,” Forte said. “For the last 12 years, we have worked hard to maintain the local broadcast tradition of WDKN as Dickson’s hometown radio station and look forward to expanding those same media opportunities into television.”
